How to Stay Motivated for Fitness

 

When you’re enjoying your training and are motivated every single day, life in general is great. The world just seems to be a happier place when you’re motivated and making progress. But what about when you’re struggling to find the energy and motivation to train? When you’re lacking motivation, even the simplest of exercises can be challenging. We all struggle to get motivated from time to time, but some of us find ourselves struggling for longer periods of time. If you’re stuck in a slump and can’t get motivated, no matter how hard you want to, this next article is for you. Here’s a look at a few tried and tested tips on staying motivated for fitness.

 

Switch up your training – If you follow the same workout routine every single week, then of course things are going to get stale and become boring. To help you stay motivated and pumped to train, every few weeks, be sure to switch up your training and try something new. Instead of training with light weights, grab your leather gym weightlifting belt, throw on your knee sleeves and load up the bar with heavy weights and train heavy. Instead of a 5-day split, why not follow a full-body routine instead. Mixing things up will help keep things fresh and exciting in the gym, which can only be a good thing. You can try different things to switch up your routine. Switching up your routine will also allow you push past any plateaus you may have hit.

 

Throw together an awesome playlist – Generic gym music is typically boring, and it certainly doesn’t really inspire people to go above and beyond what would normally be expected of them in the gym. This is where it pays to throw on some headphones and put together your own awesome playlist instead. Using one of the many music streaming services out there, take the time to put together a playlist containing all of your favourite songs and/or albums. Listening to your favourite songs will help get you amped up, it will get the blood pumping and the adrenaline flowing through your veins. Plus, you can also turn up the volume and enjoy it louder than it would be in your gym’s stereo system. An awesome motivational playlist will act as a catalyst to remind you why you are at the gym and what your goal is.

 

Visualise your goals – Whether you want to lose some fat, build some muscle, or completely transform your physique, one of the best things you can do to help you stay motivated to train, is visualise your goals. Picture yourself several months from now, with the body you’ve been working so hard to achieve. Imagine how awesome you will look, and try to envisage how great you will feel. When you feel like quitting, or just going through the motions and doing the bare minimum in the gym, just visualise your goals and remind yourself why you started in the first place.

 

Train with a friend – If you really are bored of training, why not try to get a friend or family member to be your gym buddy instead? Having somebody to train with means that you have somebody to talk to between sets. It also means that there’s somebody to motivate you and encourage you when you struggle. Not only that, there’s also going to be a certain element of friendly competitiveness when you train with a buddy. For example, if your buddy gets 10 reps, you know that for your next set, your target is going to be at least 11.

 

Track your progress – It is important to track your progress, seeing the progress you are making towards your goals will motivate you to keep pushing. Small steps and successes towards your ultimate aim will help. Remember to set realistic goals.
